Sambalpur: Nursing Employees at Vimsar Begin Sit-In Protest; Threaten Work Stoppage if Demands Aren’t Met
Sambalpur: The Odisha Nursing Employees’ Union has organized a protest to demand the implementation of their 10-point agenda. As a result, officials and members of the Vimsar Nursing Staff Union have organized a dharna (sit-in protest) outside the OPD. While continuing to perform their regular duties, they have been protesting to press their demands. They have warned that if they do not meet their demands by the 26th, the protest will escalate into a full-fledged work stoppage.
Key Demands and Background
The union demands that the government grant regular employment status, including financial benefits and promotions, to nursing officers appointed before November 12, 2013. They also call for the immediate promotion of eligible nursing officers to Senior Nursing Officer positions based on seniority, as well as a reduction in the time required for promotion to Assistant Nursing Superintendent to 16 years of service.

Escalation Plans if Demands Are Not Met
The union has threatened to take further action if the government does not respond to their demands by the deadline. The government regularizes the remaining nursing officers who have not yet been confirmed. The authorities incorporate nursing officers from the Odisha Nursing Service Cadre into regular posts. Officials revise the dress code for nursing officers in administrative positions. They also want location-based incentives for nursing officers and staff who work in difficult areas, as well as permanent directives about their salary and leave entitlements.

Key union leaders such as Tushar Tarangini Dandia, President of the Odisha Nursing Employees’ Union Burla branch; Bijaylaxmi Khuntia, General Secretary; Jyotsnarani Mahanti, Treasurer; Bibhuti Bhushan Pattnaik, Joint Secretary; and Subhajyoti Nayak, as well as other officials and all Vimsar nursing staff, have actively participated in the protest. The union plans to continue agitating until they meet their demands, emphasizing the crucial role of their members in providing essential healthcare services.
