Odisha: A 40-foot Statue overturned in the wind, Questions arose about the quality of the work
Rourkela: In view of the Men’s Hockey World Cup on January 13, a huge statue made up of Scrap Iron was erected on the road leading to Birsa Munda Stadium Gate Number-II. This image of a man playing with a stick was called hockey legend Dhyanchand, even though it matched Dhyanchand’s face perfectly. However, less than 6 months after its construction, today this statue has fallen down in the wind.

After this incident, there is a public reaction and there are questions about the quality of the construction work. Prior to World Cup, the development of multiple infrastructures and beautification of the Rourkela steel city was focused on major road construction and renovation, World Cup street beautification and painting of wall paintings, etc.
At that time this statue was built. The statue was installed on the way to the stadium and near the main gate of the Rourkela airport. The height of this statue is 40 feet and 30 lakh 68 thousand rupees were spent for its construction and around 50 lakh rupees were spent for lighting, railing system, park construction etc.
