Odisha Government Plans New Seafood Park in Western Odisha; Focus on Boosting Exports and Employment
Following the successful establishment of a seafood park in Deras, Khordha, the Odisha government intends to establish another one in Western Odisha. Bhupinder Singh Punia, Managing Director of IPICOL, confirmed the development but did not reveal the specific location. He emphasized Odisha’s extensive 480-kilometer coastline as a source of freshwater aquaculture, seafood processing, and exports.
Investment Opportunities
The government is actively encouraging processors, exporters, and industrial firms to invest in the upcoming seafood park. Investors will gain access to modern infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and comprehensive support services. The seafood park is expected to create significant job opportunities, particularly for women, as the government intends to build a dedicated hostel for female workers.

Details on the Existing Seafood Park
Punia spoke about the Deras Seafood Park, stating that three units have been established since its inception in 2021, with four more under construction. In addition, seven units are awaiting approval. The park, which covers 90 acres, has already allocated 50 acres to 14 companies, with room for 20 more.
Focus on Food Processing
The Odisha government is prioritizing the food processing sector as part of its industrial policy, providing investors with a 20% capital investment subsidy. Furthermore, the government is providing critical infrastructure, such as effluent treatment plants, cold storage, block ice units, polythene units, and packaging units. Currently, 90% of the workforce in the seafood park is female, and companies that hire local residents are eligible for a five-year EPF and ESI contribution reimbursement from the state government.
