Sambalpur: Odisha to Receive Rs. 676.7 Crore Grant Under PM-USHA Scheme; Four Old Universities Including Sambalpur University Approved for Rs. 100 Crore Each
Sambalpur: The central education department has launched the PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) scheme, aiming to strengthen and develop the higher education system across India. Sambalpur MLA Jaynarayan Mishra welcomed the initiative, calling it a historic and transformative decision.
Government Collaboration and Agreement
Within just 81 days of the new Odisha government’s formation, the state’s higher education department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central education ministry to implement the scheme.
Financial Grant and Fund Allocation
Under the PM-USHA scheme, Odisha will receive a financial grant of Rs. 676.7 crore. Out of this:
- Rs. 670 crore will fund 38 approved projects.
- Rs. 6.7 crore will be allocated for management, monitoring, evaluation, and research grants.
- The central government will contribute Rs. 408.7 crore.
- The Odisha state government will provide Rs. 268 crore.
Key Objectives and Impact
The scheme aims to improve infrastructure in universities and colleges across Odisha, ensuring better educational facilities and resources. It also focuses on promoting human resource development and advancing research activities, contributing to academic growth and innovation. Beneficiary Institutions
Four universities, including Sambalpur University, will receive Rs. 100 crore each under the Multidisciplinary Education and Research category. Additionally, universities and colleges in aspirational districts will receive financial assistance for their development.
