Sambalpur: Online Job Scam in Sambalpur; Man Loses Rs. 22 Lakh to Cyber Fraudsters

Beware of Online Job Offers!

Sambalpur: Have you received a notification about a job opportunity online? Are you being asked to register or make payments through a specific website? If so, you might be the next target of cyber fraudsters. Scammers are actively looking for opportunities to exploit people’s financial vulnerabilities. Despite repeated warnings, many individuals are still falling victim to these frauds.

Sambalpur Man Loses Over Rs. 22 Lakh

A major online job scam recently took place in the Kabrapali area of Sambalpur. Amit Kumar Badhai (40) lost over Rs. 22 lakh to fraudsters who promised him a job. He filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station, revealing that an unknown WhatsApp number (9668119852) contacted him with a job offer. The scammers convinced him by explaining the job benefits and even shared a website link, making it look legitimate.

Amit was also added to a Telegram group named “Rent House 5670,” where he was further assured of the job opportunity. Believing them, he transferred money from both his own and his father’s bank accounts. However, after multiple payments, he realized it was a scam when he did not receive the promised job. By then, a total of Rs. 22,80,814 had been withdrawn from their accounts.

Cyber Fraud on the Rise

This is not an isolated case. Across India, thousands of people are becoming victims of online scams. In Sambalpur alone, more than Rs. 3 crore has been lost to cyber fraud in just the last two months. Despite the increasing number of cases, there are allegations that the police have been slow to act, allowing fraudsters to continue their operations without fear.

Police Failing to Catch Fraudsters

If cybercriminals were arrested in every case, these scams could be reduced significantly. However, the police are struggling due to a lack of cyber experts and technical knowledge. As a result, many fraudsters escape without consequences. Even though several cases are registered at the Cyber Police Station, very few arrests have been made.

Lack of Awareness Among Victims

Despite repeated warnings, many people still fall into these traps. The police claim they are spreading awareness, but many victims remain unaware of these scams. Instead of addressing the root cause, authorities often blame the victims for their losses.

The growing number of online job scams highlights the urgent need for stricter action and better cybersecurity measures. If you receive any job offers requiring online registration fees, always verify their authenticity before proceeding. Stay alert and protect yourself from cyber fraud!
