Online Sambalpur Team Wishes Happy Navaratri to Everyone
Navratri festival is marked to pay our respects and love for all the 9 forms of Goddess Parvati.
People observe fasts, pray to the different forms of the Goddess as per each day, dance to Garba, decorate their houses, and eagerly prepare for the last day, the 10th day – Vijayadashami, also called Dussehra. People pray to the Goddess to give them strength, wisdom, happiness, wealth, and peace.
The nine forms of Goddess Parvati are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri are worshipped.
The festival celebrates all the great qualities of the Goddess, and is also symbolic in nurturing and honouring the abilities of women – whether our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers and all the women.
Durga Puja celebrations are common in the West, festive display of idol dolls are popular in parts of Southern India, and Ramleela celebrations are significant in the North.
People also observe Ashtami and Navami, i.e. the 8th and the 9th day of Navratri, which is celebrated by conducting Kanya Pujan. For Kanya Pujan, people invite young girls to their homes and worship them by touching their feet and giving them food and gifts. These young girls are symbolic of the Goddess herself.
