Sambalpur: Over 30 Illegal Shop Constructions Demolished and Hoardings Removed by Sambalpur Municipal Corporation

Unauthorized Hoarding Taken Down

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) recently took down an illegal hoarding in front of the Women’s Police Station. A company had displayed an advertisement on this hoarding for a long time but had not paid any dues to the SMC. Despite receiving notices from the municipal authorities, the company neither paid the required fees nor removed the hoarding . As a result, the SMC’s enforcement team removed the hoarding.

Illegal Hoardings Affecting City’s Appearance

This is not the only unauthorized hoarding in the city; several areas are filled with similar hoardings that make the city look unattractive. Businesses putting up such advertisements without paying any dues are affecting the city’s appearance. However, until recently, the SMC had not taken strict action against these unauthorized displays, leading to growing demands for enforcement.

Demolition of Unauthorized Constructions on Public Spaces

The SMC has also demolished unauthorized constructions by over 30 shops, both big and small, from Laxmi Talkies Square to Chandrasekhar Behera District Square. Many of these businesses had encroached upon public roads and drainage areas, causing obstruction. According to SMC’s enforcement officer, prominent stores, including Hindustan Ply and other establishments, had their illegal structures cleared to reclaim public spaces.
