Sambalpur: Parking Problem Escalates in Sambalpur; Why Has SMC Stopped Its Action?

Sambalpur: The city’s parking problems are worsening as the number of commercial establishments grows. Many business owners have failed to provide parking spaces for their customers, forcing the public to park two- and four-wheel vehicles on the streets. As a result, this problem is getting worse every day.

Initial Action by SMC: A Halt in Progress

A Halt in Progress In June, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) took steps to address the parking issue. A few commercial establishments were even fined for not providing adequate parking facilities. Despite these efforts, many of the city’s businesses still lack designated parking areas. This has prompted the general public to question why SMC’s actions have come to a standstill.

SMC has previously informed that several commercial buildings in Sambalpur are under investigation. They promised to take the necessary regulatory actions. Despite these efforts, no further action has been taken since June. As a result, major roads in the city are becoming increasingly congested as vehicles are parked on the streets, owing to a lack of parking spaces.

Public Frustration Grows

Several citizens have filed complaints with SMC about businesses that do not have proper parking arrangements. Following these complaints, the corporation began inspecting the permits of commercial establishments to ensure compliance. SMC assured that any violations would result in severe punishment. However, there has been no follow-up since June, causing residents to become increasingly frustrated.

Sambalpur’s Growing Commercial Hub

Sambalpur is an ancient city that has grown into a major commercial hub in Western Odisha. With the establishment of numerous industries in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda, the city has evolved into a modern urban centre. Despite its growth, the city’s infrastructure, particularly basic amenities, has struggled to keep up.

Traffic Problems Caused by Lack of Parking

Parking has become a major concern for everyone in Sambalpur. Many prominent roads are lined with commercial establishments, but few of them offer adequate parking. As a result, customers have no choice but to park their vehicles on the street, causing frequent traffic congestion.

Attempt to Contact SMC
