Sambalpur: Pushpa-2 Fails to Release in Sambalpur’s Only Cinema Hall; Theater Closure Leaves Audience Disappointed
The Movie Craze Hits a Wall
Sambalpur: Across the nation, the much-awaited movie Pushpa-2: The Rule is set to release tomorrow, creating a wave of excitement. However, in Sambalpur, fans will not get the chance to watch it. The city’s only cinema hall is closed, and the film could not be released here. Fans of actor Allu Arjun, eagerly waiting for the movie, returned home disappointed after hours of anticipation. Their sentiment was summed up in one phrase: “Pushpa didn’t come to Sambalpur.”
A Dispute Halts Movie Screenings
The only theater in Sambalpur, which is located inside a mall, has been closed for the past four days due to an ongoing dispute between the mall and the hall owners. To make matters worse, the cinema hall has lost power. As a result, Sambalpur residents have been unable to watch movies in recent days. Previously, Sambalpur was known for its love of cinema, with three active theaters. However, as the cinema industry evolved, all three theaters closed down. Even the lone functioning hall has been closed due to unresolved issues.

Fans Left Disheartened
This morning, a large crowd of movie enthusiasts gathered outside the theater, hoping to grab advance tickets. Many stood in long queues in the hope of watching Pushpa-2. However, their hopes were dashed when the hall owners announced that the movie would not be screened. Disappointed fans returned home, expressing frustration over the lack of facilities in their city.
Past Glory and Current Struggles
In its prime, Sambalpur had theaters like Gaiety, Laxmi, and Ashoka, which were crowd favorites. However, these theaters shut down due to a lack of modernization and poor business. According to Mukesh Jariwal, a resident of Sambalpur, the state government took no steps to save these theaters at the time. While a new theater eventually opened in the mall, it too now faces closure due to unresolved disputes.
Sandeep Kumar Behera, who was in line for tickets, said, “We had no idea the hall was closed. We rushed to get advance tickets, but now we’re going home disappointed.”
Hope for a Resolution
The theater management has assured that the issue will be resolved soon, and people can enjoy movies again. However, the mall authorities have not commented on the matter yet. For now, Sambalpur residents remain hopeful for the reopening of their cinema hall and a return to enjoying their favorite films.
