Sambalpur: Rail Travel to Become Easier with New 8km Flyover from Khetrajpur to City Station; MoR Approved ₹289 Crore

Sambalpur: Railway traffic issues at Sambalpur-Khetrajpur Junction will soon be a thing of the past. A new rail flyover will be constructed between Khetrajpur and Sambalpur City Station to ease passenger train movement. The Ministry of Railways approved a budget of ₹289 crore for the construction of the 8.1 km long flyover.

Benefits of the Flyover

The new rail flyover will ensure that passenger trains continue to run while goods trains pass through Khetrajpur. This will help to eliminate cross-traffic delays and increase efficiency. As a result, the connectivity to Titlagarh, Anugul, and Jharsuguda will be significantly improved.

Impact on Traffic Flow

Currently, around 60 passenger trains travel through Sambalpur, and frequent cross-traffic causes significant delays. However, once the rail flyover is completed, these issues will be resolved. This project will streamline the flow of trains by eliminating ground crossings, increasing train efficiency in the region.

Local Improvements and Future Plans

Previously, the Ministry of Railways approved ₹350 crore to develop Khetrajpur Junction and ₹24 crore for City Station. In addition, plans are underway to expand the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda and Sambalpur-Kerjang rail lines, with work on the third and fourth lines already underway. A project worth ₹272 crore has been approved to connect Sambalpur City Station and Jharsuguda Station via Sarla.
