Sambalpur: Reliance Smart Sealed Again After Four Months, Parking Issues Worsen Traffic Problem

Sambalpur: SMC (Sambalpur Municipal Corporation) has sealed Reliance Smart in Budharaja again after four months, despite efforts to resolve issues. The SMC closed the market complex, which handles crores of rupees in business, due to a lack of proper parking facilities. SMC enforcement officer Sushant Sahu stated that while they are restricting retail sales from the store, wholesale and online sales can continue as usual.

Traffic Problems Due to Encroachments

Traffic issues in Sambalpur have been worsening due to encroachments. Large businesses like Reliance Smart are making the problem even more complicated. Every day, hundreds of customers visit these market complexes. However, without designated parking, customers are forced to park their vehicles on public roads, further aggravating traffic problems. This situation raises questions about how such large businesses operate without parking facilities for years.

Previous Actions and SMC’s Warnings

SMC issued a warning and then closed Reliance Smart in June due to a lack of parking. The store responded by informing SMC in writing that they would resolve the issue by July 31. However, by October, Reliance Smart had not taken any action. Just before Dussehra, in the first week of October, SMC reminded Reliance Smart to address the parking issue, but store officials did nothing.

Latest Sealing and Future Decisions

As a result, SMC has sealed the store again today. The future of this market complex will be discussed in a board meeting chaired by the District Collector, focusing on town planning. SMC has indicated that a decision about the future of Reliance Smart will be made after this meeting.
