Sambalpur: Rising Terror of Robbers in Sambalpur; Items Worth Over Rs. 70,000 Looted from Gopalmal Hostel, Thief Escapes After Giving the Slip to PCR

Increase in Theft Incidents
Sambalpur: Theft cases are rising in Ainthapali police station area. Last night, a thief broke into a rented house in Gopalmal and stole two mobile phones, a wristwatch, earphones, and other valuables worth over Rs. 70,000. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.
Similarly, on the 17th of this month, a black bike belonging to 52-year-old Manohar Sahu was stolen from Malipada. He had parked his bike at the Ainthapali bus stand before going to work. However, when he returned, his bike was missing. He immediately filed a written complaint at Ainthapali police station. Even after eight days, the police have failed to catch the thief.
Thief Escapes Right in Front of Police
Last night, a thief entered a house in Gopalmal. As he was escaping with the stolen goods, some children woke up due to noise and tried to catch him. The locals then informed the police and checked the CCTV footage.
When the police arrived and started investigating, they spotted the thief again. People helped the police chase him, but surprisingly, he managed to escape right in front of them. Locals accused the PCR police of not making enough effort to track him down.

Repeated Incidents, But No Action
This is not a new issue. In the past eight months, items worth over Rs. 2 lakh have been stolen in the area. However, residents complain that the police have not conducted a proper investigation.
According to a local resident, in a previous theft case, people had caught a thief and handed him over to the police. But instead of taking strict action, the police released him after a few days. Moreover, they did not recover any stolen goods from him. Now, people suspect there might be a secret understanding between the police and thieves.
Loss of Trust in Police
Residents are losing faith in law enforcement. When someone reports a mobile theft, the police simply say, “It’s gone, nothing can be done.” They register cases but do not take further action.
Meanwhile, SDPO Anil Kumar Pradhan has assured that all police stations have been instructed to increase patrolling. He also promised that every registered case will be taken seriously and investigated properly.
