Rudra Maharathy of the BJD Wins the Pipili Bypoll
What better way to commemorate the first anniversary of late Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pradeep Maharathy’s death than for his son to win a bypoll in his Pipili Assembly Constituency today?
In a bypoll, his son Rudra Pratap Maharathy won the Pipili Assembly Constituency, which is considered the BJD’s stronghold.
“After my father’s death, the residents of Delang-Pipili waited for an MLA for about a year. The long wait will soon be over. I’m not here to celebrate; instead, I’ll concentrate on my work. My first aim will be to finish the work that my late father started and to reach out to ordinary people to help them with their problems,” he added.
Rudra Maharathy of the BJD received 96,392 votes in the final 26 rounds of voting, while Ashrit Pattanayak of the BJP received 75,770 votes.
With barely 4,237 votes, Congress nominee Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra came in third.
