Sambalpur: Sadakghat Tragedy; Two Students Drown in Mahanadi, Bodies Recovered from Samaleswari Ghat
Sambalpur: The bodies of two students who went missing after drowning in the Sadak Ghat, Mahanadi River have been found. The bodies were discovered yesterday morning during a fire department search operation at Samaleswari Ghat. The deceased students have been identified as S. Kaniks and Himanshu. Both lived in Kshetrajaipur’s Tiwari Gali and attended Kshetrajaipur Girls’ School in ninth grade.
Incident at Sadak Ghat
On Friday, around 3:30 PM, two students were swept away while bathing in the river near Sadak Ghat in Sambalpur. The fire department, ODRAF, and local police immediately began a search operation on the scene. Despite searching until the evening, they were unable to find the students. Due to nightfall, the search operation was paused and resumed the following morning, resulting in the bodies being recovered at Samaleswari Ghat.

Details of the Tragic Event
According to reports, three friends—Ronak Shukla, S. Kaniks, and Himanshu left their houses to play in Mandaliya. They first arrived at Sadak Ghat along the Mahanadi River. S. Kaniks and Himanshu told Ronak they wanted to bathe in the river, but Ronak tried to prevent them. Despite his warning, Kaniks and Himanshu entered the water, but quickly lost their footing and were swept away by the powerful current. Ronak screamed for help as he stood on the shore. Locals initially searched the area but could not locate them, so they notified the fire department.
