Sambalpur: Dhanupali police have arrested Mohammad Samad, a notorious criminal, in a robbery case. Police arrest Samad on the complaint of Siddhartha Kundu, 32, of Murshidabad, West Bengal.
According to police, Siddhartha was rushed to Burla Vimsar Covid Hospital as an employee. However, after returning from work, he was returning to Khetrajapur railway station in an auto from Burla Vimsar at around 10 last Thursday to return home. But the driver was mistakenly taken to Sambalpur City Station. However, when he found out that the wrong station had arrived, he asked where he would find an auto to go to Khetrajapur station at 10.30 at a tea stall. There, three miscreants, including Samad, came on a bike and a scooter and snatched Siddharth’s ATM card, voter ID and Rs 2,000 in cash from his pocket. They then threatened to kill him, took him to an ATM in Dhankauda and demanded Rs 40,000. Frightened, Siddhartha took the money from the ATM and handed it over to the miscreants. After receiving the money, the miscreants left Siddhartha near the railway station and fled.
Siddhartha then lodged a written complaint with the Dhanupali police station. A case has been registered at Dhanupali police station following the allegations. Under the direction of Sambalpur SDP, led by Dhanupali Police Station Officer Anita Pradhan, SI T. Khatua, D. Bhuey and S. Ray a team was formed to look into the matter, and an investigation was launched. Within 24 hours of the allegations, police were able to identify the culprits and arrest two suspects. However, police have succeeded in arresting Mohammad Samad alias Sheikh Samad, 30, of Motijhira Gwalapada under Dhanupalli police station, and Mohammad Hussain alias Charlie, 42, of Motijhira under Dhanupali police station. Efforts are underway to arrest the other culprits, police said. Police found an assault rifle, a machete and ammunition in Huff’s truck, and a search of his apartment turned up three more rifles. Police seized 19000 cash and scooty from samad & 20000 cash and a bike from charlie.
There are more than 14 cases pending in the name of samad but Samad is still playing the game of thieves and police Samad, a notorious criminal, has committed a number of crimes in Sambalpur. Of the 17 cases, only 16 were registered in Dhanupali police station and one in Kuchinda police station. Intellectuals believe that the police department is not paying attention to it while Samad spread his criminal hideouts in the area under Dhanupali police station which endangering the lives of the general public. A kidnapping case was registered at Dhanupali police station on August 8 last year. Police also arrested Samad’s second wife, Razia, and a colleague.
