Sambalpur: Samaleswari Temple Project; Improved Roads Pose New Risks to Visitors
Women devotees are stumbling
Bikes are losing balance
Tires are getting cut
Sambalpur: The inauguration of the Samaleswari Temple project has significantly increased the number of devotees. Devotees now come from all over the state and beyond, including neighboring states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. This influx includes both individual travelers and groups arriving by private vehicle, pilgrimage bus, or train.
However, road improvements in the temple area have created unexpected hazards. Stone blocks installed to improve the temple’s approach road are causing problems for many visitors. Some devotees prefer not to leave their footwear at the designated shoe stands, instead walking barefoot after leaving their shoes near their bikes or cars. Walking barefoot over the uneven stone blocks is painful and dangerous.

Challenges Faced by Women Devotees
The uneven placement of these stone blocks, combined with gaps between them, has resulted in numerous incidents in which women’s footwear becomes stuck, causing them to trip and fall. This problem is exacerbated by decorative patterns and misaligned blocks on both sides of the street.
Impact on Bikers
Bikers frequently lose balance and fall when their bike tires get caught in the gaps between the blocks. Furthermore, the sharp edges of these blocks are reportedly damaging bike tires, causing frequent punctures.
Calls for Action
These ongoing issues have resulted in numerous complaints from both devotees and pedestrians. There is an increasing demand to fill the gaps between the stone blocks to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors to the Samaleswari Temple.
