Sambalpur: 11 lawyers were brutally beaten by the police: Lawyers’ representatives complained, police denied the allegations

Sambalpur: The police have shown inhumane behavior with the arrested lawyers. Arrested 11 lawyers were brutally beaten. Some of the advocates have not yet recovered from their injuries. Nirmal Kishore Rath, former president of Bhubaneswar Bar Association, complained here today that such behavior of the police is not acceptable.

Nirmal Rath, after meeting President of Sambalpur Bar Association, Sureshwar Mishra, who was arrested in connection with the 12th agitation and vandalism in the court, President of the Bar Association Action Committee, Pradeep Bohidar, said, “After discussing with the members of the Bar Association in the morning today, we will contact the District Judge, IG of Uttarakhand Police and in the evening, we have met Sambalpur District Collector and requested him to take steps to restore peaceful atmosphere. Police brutally beat 11 of the arrested lawyers. In this regard, we have informed the District Collector and requested him to meet the lawyers in jail and see about it. The police have taken such steps out of revenge. The government has again launched a crime branch investigation to implicate lawyers in the attack. This will make the situation worse rather than better. Mr. Rath said that no such steps should be taken, which will worsen the situation further.

Rajkishore Das, general editor of Bhubaneswar Bar Association, said that the arrested lawyer was treated inhumanely by the police. With the lifting of Article 144, the IG of Police and the District Collector have been requested to take necessary steps in order to restore normalcy and prevent people from suffering further. Baleswar Bar Association President Manoj Naik, former Nilgiri Bar Association President Kishore Sarangi along with Zia Ul Haq, Muhammad Islam, Ashok Kumar Badapanda, Shiv Prasad Sahu and members of various bar associations were included in this delegation.

On the other hand, when SP B. Gangadhar was asked about the allegation of beating up of lawyers by the police, he denied it. No arrested lawyer was beaten by the police. He said that no one complained to him in this regard. Lawyer Manojaranjan Panda is said to have surrendered today in the 12th incident. Along with this, the number of agitators who have been prosecuted has reached 37. A total of 28 lawyers are among them. While 144 was raised on Saturday evening, 144 has been imposed for one day today. On the contrary, no member of the Sambalpur Bar Association has yet joined the court proceedings. There is chaos in the court. Meanwhile, lawyers from different districts are visiting Sambalpur every day to boost the morale of Sambalpur Bar Association. Today, a 20-member representative team of various bar associations of the state came to Sambalpur.
