Sambalpur: 1,500 crore to OUTR, Vssut hands empty! Why is this biased attitude of the state government?
Burla: Government funding for education is also biased. The state government has given Rs 1,500 crore to OUTR at a time, while the four-year-old technical institute, Veer Surendra Sai, has been accused of neglecting. The state government recognized the CET as a university in 2020 and became known as the OUTR. A total of Rs 1,500 crore has been sanctioned by the university for a five-year investment. However, it has been alleged that the state government has a biased attitude towards the technical university, which was transformed from the UCE to Vssut in 2004.
The institute was established in 1954 for revolutionary change in Odisha. In the meantime, Vssut has produced more than 40,000 talented engineers. As the only government technical institute in Odisha, Vssut is ranked 119th nationally, bringing glory to the state. The institute, which started with 1,200 students, now has about 6,000 undergraduates in 12 departments and postgraduate courses in 22 departments. However, classrooms, laboratories and dormitories built during the establishment of the educational institution are now in a state of disrepair. Cracks have formed in various places and water is also flowing during the rainy season. Lessons are taught in the laboratory on old equipment. There is also no high-quality equipment for research. More students are being forced to stay together due to lack of dormitories. There is also no provision for uninterrupted power supply. Students are forced to remain in the dark when lightning strikes.
There is also no special facility for MTech and research students. However, with the help of students and faculty, Vssut has established itself at the national level. The opening of a branch of ISRO has enhanced the prestige of the institution in the country. The Prime Minister also praised Mann Ki Baat. Vssut-SLLV is well-known in the country. The students of Idea and Innovation Cell have excelled at various national technical institutes in India and have been awarded nationally and glorified the institution and Odisha. It is learned that Prof. Majhi, the Chancellor of Vssut, has also come up with a master plan for the development of the entire region by bringing together the industrial and educational institutions in the region. Infrastructure development, high-quality laboratories, integrated laboratories, agriculture, water resources investment, environmental protection, space research, telecommunications, better investment in better electricity, productivity standards, health and hygiene, women and child development. It takes money. Therefore, the state government has demanded an immediate grant of Rs 2,000 crore from the state government.
