Sambalpur: 16 gates from the left side and 10 from the south side of Hirakud Dam have been opened for water discharged
Sambalpur: Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches, the water level of Hirakud Reservoir is increasing. So far 22 gates of Hirakud Dam have been opened and the water drainage work is going on. 4 more gates have been opened from the water control exit. A total of 26 gates have been opened in Hirakud and water is being drained. 16 gates have been opened from the left side while 10 gates have been opened from the south side.
While 2 sluice gates were opened on Wednesday, water was being drained through 12 more sluice gates in two phases on Thursday. At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the water level was 628.31 feet, while it reached 628.58 feet at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Yesterday again 8 gates were opened and water was drained.
Till yesterday, 22 gates were opened and 2,96,665 cusecs of water were entering the reservoir while 3,53,842 cusecs were being withdrawn from the reservoir. Inundation is likely to increase further today. Therefore, seeing the situation, it is said that some more sluice gates will be opened.
