Sambalpur: 2 firms were sentenced in Consumer court in case of fraud during online delivery
Sambalpur: Buying things in Online has become a common occurrence. Taking advantage of this, various organizations are trying to cheat the customers on a daily basis. The Sambalpur Consumer Court after hearing the 2 cases in Sambalpur yesterday charged the 2 organizations and ordered the petitioners to be compensated with interest.
According to the complaint, Sapan Pate of Mahulpali police station Zarabgaon village ordered a mobile online in June 2019. The price of which was 27,900 rupees at that time. However, he choose ‘Pay on Delivery’ option for this mobile. On the day of the delivery, the mobile was delivered and Sapan pay all the money in cash. But after a few days of receiving the mobile, it suddenly got locked. It was mentioned that your mobile phone has been locked because the EMI of Rs 32909 has not been paid. A password was also given to unlock it. But despite using it repeatedly, the mobile was not unlocked. He came to know that someone had taken a fake loan in his name cause he had not bought the mobile phone in loan emi.
He contacted the company’s customer care but nobody respond. Then he appeared before the consumer court in 2020. In this case, the consumer court give justice to Sapan and charged the delivery company. The court ordered to pay Rs 50,000 compensation and Rs 14,000 to the person who bought the Rs 27,900 mobile or the mobile of that model within 30 days. The court directed that if it is not paid within the stipulated time, the guilty company will have to repay the money at the rate of 1 percent per annum.
In the second incident, Mr. Pranab Bhol, owner of M/s Precision Instrumentation, of municipality under Sambalpur Town Police Station in March 2021 contacted online to purchase 500 OS LED bulbs. He made an advance payment of Rs 75,000 for each bulb Rs.150 and Rs 9,000 for GST. Rivigo Services Private Limited delivered the order to Mr. Bhol on April 14. He also paid an additional Rs.1340 towards the delivery charges. Then by the time he opened the packet, there were 142 ordered balls and the rest were cloth. He then complained to both the delivery company and the order company. But both the organizations did not accept their mistake. Finally, Mr. Bhol appeared in the consumer court. The court after hearing the case ordered the company to pay 30 thousand rupees as compensation and 10 thousand rupees as the cost of the case to Pranab immediately.
