Sambalpur: 2 officers drowned in Hirakud water reservoir

Burla: 2 MCL officers drowned near Jhankarani Temple in Hirakud Reservoir yesterday afternoon and another officer was rescued. As of 10:00 pm, two are still missing. They are Mahesh Chitthuri and Abhishek Kumar. Mahesh Mining Manager and Abhishek Kumar Excavation Manager at MCL. The rescued officer Abinash Roy is also stationed at MCL headquarters as Excavation Manager.

According to the information received from the police sources, four officers working in MCL in a car came to Hirakud Reservoir for a walk this afternoon. At around 5:30 pm in the evening, they entered the water to bath. They went into deep water while swimming. Among them, Saurabh Sahani himself came out of the water while Abinash Roy, Mahesh, Abhishek drowned.

However, the security personnel of the local boating club reached there and managed to rescue Abinash but Mahesh and Abhishek drowned. The fire brigade and police were immediately informed. The fire brigade reached the spot and started searching. But, as it got dark, there was a problem. Police sources informed that the rescue operation will continue tomorrow. It is worth noting that a few years ago, 3 people died after drowning in the above place in Hirakud Reservoir.
