Sambalpur: 5 long-distance trains have been allowed to stay at City Station instead of Sambalpur Junction
The platform will be implemented after the expansion
Sambalpur: A proposal was made by the Sambalpur Railway Division to the management department of the East Coast Railway Headquarters to stop the 5 long-distance express trains at Sambalpur City Station instead of Sambalpur Junction (Khetrajpur).
These trains traveling from Bhubaneswar via Sambalpur to Jharsuguda and back, after coming to Sambalpur Junction, change the engine to change the direction of the train. As a result, all trains have to wait 20 minutes or more. If these trains go to Sambalpur Junction and stop at Sambalpur City Station, the journey time can be reduced from 40 minutes to 1 hour, thus avoiding Khetrajpur Station. – Jodhpur Puri Superfast and 20807/20808 Visakhapatna- Amritsar Visakhapatnam Hirakud Express was proposed by the Mandal for permission to run through city station.
Although the management department of the East Coast headquarters has agreed to this proposal, it has placed some conditions before the council. It is said that after the completion of the said development work at the city station, the accommodation of the above trains will be possible. Among the proposals are increasing the length and height of the platform such as having 24 LHUB cobs at the city station, widening the platform, installing electronic cob information boards on the platform, arranging ticket booking and parcel booking, loading and unloading. After the completion of all these works at the city station, the above five lanes will run through the city station without reaching Khetrajpur, according to the letter number 15/2023 of the East Coast Headquarters. Notably, Sambalpur City Station currently accommodates a handful of trains with less than 20 coaches.
