Sambalpur: Power cut for 6 hours due to light rain and wind. Half the city was left in the dark during the curfew time. Tumbesingha, Sindurpank, Putibandh, Dhanupali, Bhatra, Gobindtola, Charvati, Commissioner’s Colony, Jailchowk, Hirakud Colony, Daleipada, Nayapada, Ghatpada, Motijharan, VSS Marg etc. areas were darkened for the power cut.
The electricity department, which cuts the lines twice a month for maintenance, but the kind of maintenance it is doing, is known from the light rain. The company, which always dominates the customers for the electricity bill, has failed to deliver the service. On the day of Eid, during the curfew, the electricity department, which cut off the electricity from Dhanupali to Golebazar and Sakhipada for so long, was not given any warning or any action by the administration. When the common man or representative of the republic calls, the electrician or the officials do not pick up the phone. Dhanupali’s Junior engineer cut the phone repeatedly while the assistant engineer did not pick up the phone, other way SDO answered and said that there was a power cut in Putibandh due to a faulty power transformer.
The power cut happened before 5 pm, which came at 11 pm. Frequent power outages have become common in the Putibandh grid region. There are frequent power cuts during the day. In addition to this, power outages are common in some other areas of the city, the residents of the area have complained that regular power cuts are also happening in Baidyanath Street.
