Burla: A final year B.Tech student of ‘Suiit’ under Sambalpur University has left the campus by commenting on junior students. This incident has become a topic of discussion in educational city Burla today.
According to the information received, on the 15th, some BTech second-year girl students of ‘Suiit’ went to the toilet. There is a cold water fridge outside the toilet for drinking water. A BTech fourth-year student who was already there made obscene gestures and comments toward the students. The second-year students concerned lodged a written complaint with the ‘suiit’ director. After the written complaint, Director Prof. Basant Mohanty informed the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Anita Das. Vice-Chancellor Professor Das took the allegations seriously and constituted a disciplinary committee to investigate. After weighing all aspects, it has been decided to expel the concerned B.Tech final year student from the ‘suiit’ campus for two months. In this regard, after asking Professor Mohanty, director of ‘Suiit’, he accepted it and informed that this strict step has been taken to maintain order on the campus.
It is worth noting that on November 20, two groups of students clashed at Suiit College. A second-year student was abused by eight of his classmates at night. After that, the concerned student informed about the incident to his elder brother who is studying in his final year. After that, the elder brother, along with some of his friends, punish those 8 students inside the dormitory in the middle of the night. According to the disciplinary committee’s decision, 4 second-year students who were directly involved in the incident were expelled from the dormitory for one year, another 4 students for 6 months, and one final-year student from the dormitory for 6 months. Some other students were reprimanded.
