Burla: A Gatherings of Burla residents has been held today at Burla Durga Mandap to demand justice and fair compensation for the families living in Burla town who were being evicted. Many families in the city have been registered under the Detention Act, describing their plight as the residents faced unemployment and displacement due to the eviction process by the Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation.
People expressed the view that it was very regrettable that the lease had been canceled when the family had been living there for many years and had been paying all the taxes. In today’s gathering, the administration has been demanded to listen to the people of Burla, who demanded the implementation of 4 decimils of land and fair financial system in Burla as well as quick relief to the house owners and shopkeepers who were affected due to the eviction process.
While the Metropolitan Corporation failed to provide basic services to the Burla residents, the gatherings condemned the taking of people’s residences and jobs, demanding leases to the Burla residents, no further construction or demolition, land to the affected, financial assistance and shops and financial assistance to the shopkeepers. It was decided in today’s meeting to launch a mass protest to achieve the demands. The gathering included Girija Naik, Arjun Pattnaik, Shiv Dalai, Bhuban Bishwal, Shantilata Kar, Dalai, Shivram Panda, Chowdhury Pradhan, Prashant Padhi along with the general public of Burla and various social and cultural institutions, business associations, workers of Burla Action Committee joined.
