Sambalpur: A student died in a bus collision, intense tension in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: A school student died in a collision with a passenger bus in Sambalpur yesterday evening. While the student was riding a scooter, the bus hit him in front of the office of the regional directorate of education in Mudipada under the town police station and the student died on the spot. There was intense tension at the scene around this incident. They attempted to destroy the bus and set it on fire, but they failed when the police reached the address. Heavy stone pelting and shouting, the police managed to rescue the bus that had caused the accident from the town of the aggrieved crowd and took it out of the city. The police had to be lathi-charged to bring the unrest under control. Some youths involved in the incident have been taken to the police station and detained.
According to the information, Arun Nayak’s son Dishant Nayak (Ronak-13) of Gurudwara Chowk, Sambalpur was studying in the 9th standard at the Central School. He was going from Mudipada to Kunjelpada on a Scooty at around 7:00 pm yesterday, when the bus hit him from behind in front of the Mudipada regional directorate of education office. Ronak died on the spot. When the local residents reached the spot of the accident, there was a commotion. As the bus (OD 11B 6661) was trying to escape from the spot, the people surrounded it near Kacheri Street.

While destroying the bus, the police arrived and stopped it. To bring the situation under control, the police lathi-charged the people and confiscated the bus. Several people were injured and the bus was taken to Burla police station through Chaurpur Bridge by the police. After some time, the people staged a protest in front of the town police station and raised slogans against the police. Sadar’s SDPOs, including Additional SP Haresh Pandey, were disappointed with the explanation. The protestors first blocked the road in front of the town police station. After some time, they surrounded Lachmi Takij Chowk. The traffic was stopped. The incident of the bus entering the city in the evening led to protests. As a result, the police again drove the lathi-charge, and the agitated people blocked the road even at Modipada Chowk. Additional SP Mr. Pandey said that while the bus that caused the accident has been impounded, the driver has been detained while the police are investigating the incident by registering a case. On the other hand, the agitated people have warned that they will shut down Sambalpur tomorrow if justice is not done.
