- Importance of Waste Management by SMC
- Segregation of wet, dry, electronic waste
All over the world, emphasis is now being given to waste management. The biggest challenge today is not to collect garbage from the city and dump it, but to manage it and put it to proper use. Therefore, it is said that this tweet was made by SMC to warn all the people living in the metropolis. SMC Officer Shudhankar Mohanty said, keep wet, dry, electronic waste and household hazardous waste separately. Use at least 2 dustbins at home. Put wet garbage in the green and dry garbage in the blue bin.
Waste placed in the blue bin is non-biodegradable. Including glass, iron, tin, plastic interior. Similarly, on every Saturday, SMC collects waste from household like e-waste and hazardous items (paint cans, CFL bulbs). Various memes are being shared on social media. Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation is not excluded from this. A meme has been shared by tweeting in different ways to make the locals aware of cleanliness.
In addition, Mr. Mohanty said, 150 metric tons of waste is being collected from the city every day but only 50 metric tons is being segregated. As the rest of the litter gets mixed together, management is not possible. So the remaining hundred metric tons are going to be dumped. Therefore, the Metropolitan Corporation will deliver the vehicles to every people’s homes. So everyone should have 2 dustbins in their house. Garbage should be segregated and disposed of in the municipal waste bins. It will go directly to the resource center without putting it in the soil. Mr. Mohanty said that it will be possible to manage the waste.
