Sambalpur: The biggest auditorium in Sambalpur city with 1200 seats built on the premises of Gangadhar Meher University has finally been inaugurated. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the auditorium on Friday evening through video conferencing. The construction work of this auditorium, which was built with the grant of the Western Odisha Development Council, was completed a few months ago. But deliberately little work was left behind and not handed over to the university. The city’s intellectuals also complained that its inauguration was being delayed due to political reasons. There was also talk that the plan to inaugurate it at an appropriate time was put in the hands of the Chief Minister when the election was going to be held in 2024. Even after the completion of the construction work, there were discussions in various quarters about not handing over the auditorium.

This year, the auditorium could not be occupied even during the convocation ceremony of GMU and the recently held Foundation Day celebrations. There was intense criticism about that. Finally, on Friday, the Chief Minister was in Bhubaneswar and inaugurated it through video conferencing. Many MLAs and officials including Western Odisha Development Council chairman Ashit Tripathi joined online. On this occasion, Northern Revenue Commissioner Dr. Suresh Chandra Dalai, Sambalpur District Magistrate Ananya Das, University Chancellor Professor N Nagaraju, Western Odisha Development Council Member Jagyaseni Nag, Technical Adviser Sunil Naik, IAS(Pro) Sneha Arugula, GMU Chancellor Jugaleshwari Das were present. Many officials, faculty members, students, and staff of the university were present in the auditorium. On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new multi-purpose hall constructed at Kuchinda College in Sambalpur District and Keshav Hall.
