Sambalpur: The results of the general election were declared yesterday, with the BJP securing the Sambalpur assembly seat. BJP MLA candidate Jayanarayan Mishra defeated BJD MLA candidate Rohit Pujari by a margin of 4,105 votes. Following his victory, Jayanarayan Mishra visited Easta Devi Maa Samlei in Sambalpur in the evening to seek her blessings. He also visited the Patmeshwari temple.
Jayanarayan Mishra further visits the Brahmapura temple, Hanuman temple, and Sri Ram temple to offer his prayers and seek blessings. After that, he gave sweets to Raseshwari Panigrahi, Sambalpur’s ex-MLA, and they ate together and celebrated the victory with hundreds of BJP workers. Mr. Mishra received his victory certificate from Returning Officer and Sub-Collector Pushpanjali Panda on Tuesday evening.
How many times has he won?
Jayanarayan Mishra, who began his political career with the BJP, has contested elections eight times since 1990 and has won five times, including today’s victory. In 1990 and 1995, he was defeated by Durgashankar Patnaik of Congress. However, from 2000 to 2009, Jayanarayan made a hat-trick by winning three consecutive elections. Despite the Modi wave in 2014, he faced defeat by BJD’s Dr. Raseswari Panigrahi, but in the 2019 elections, he avenged this loss by defeating Dr. Raseswari.
