Sambalpur: A tragic boat accident occurred in the Hirakud Reservoir, near Sambalpur today in 2024. 1 died and more than ten people were presumed missing when a boat sank in the water.
According to initial reports, the ferry boat carrying approximately 50 passengers sank a short distance from Sarada Ghat in the Hirakud Reservoir area within the Rengali police station limits in Jharsuguda district.
While over 35 passengers have been rescued so far, a frantic search is continuing for over 10 others who remain unaccounted for and missing in the reservoir waters.
Police and fire brigade teams have rushed to the accident site and a massive rescue operation has been launched with the help of local fishermen to locate the missing passengers.
