Sambalpur: Business declined, 20 crore worth of jewellery sold in Dhanteras
Sambalpur: In 2019 and 2020, gold sales in Dhanteras were stagnant, but last year i.e. in 2021, the market recovered. In 2022, however, sales declined again. This year, when Dhanteras and Diwali are acelebrated, people in Sambalpur region have spent less than last year to buy jewellery. This time, people started shopping from jewellery shops from Friday, while there was a heavy crowd on Sunday. In these three days, 35 to 40 kg gold jewellery was sold in about 50 jewellery shops in Sambalpur city. In three days, all the shops have done a business of about 20 crore rupees. An average of 2 kg of gold jewellery is sold in the city of Sambalpur every day and a turnover of Rs 1 crore is done. But during Dhanteras it increases significantly. However, due to the ongoing recession, the daily average has reduced to Rs 70 lakh in normal times.
This time Dhanteras business accounted for 60% of the city’s 9 large jewellery showrooms, while other medium and small shops accounted for the remaining 40%. Sales of large shops increased, while medium-sized shops were able to maintain their business, while the sales of small shops decreased relatively.
Large showrooms like Arundhati, Original Jewellery, Shree Jewellery, New’ Jewellery, Tanisq, Reliance have taken the lion’s share of the business. Medium stores like New Sonica, Prasad Jewelers have also done remarkable business. Lakshmi comes home after buying gold, silver and metal goods in Dhanteras. This belief drew people to the jewellery shop, not only jewellery, but also bronze, brass etc. shopkeepers did quite a bit of business in Dhanteras.
Jewellers in Dhanteras made many offers to attract customers. Almost all the shopkeepers gave a discount on the high price of gold. Many merchants offered guaranteed gifts on the purchase of gold. There was a discount on diamonds, silver and other jewellery, but sales were slow in Sambalpur market. Some big retailers have arranged lucky coupons for customers. Certain shops also gave gifts like sweets, dry foot packets, chocolate packets etc. to the customers who bought jewellery. A large amount of metal goods were also sold in the pottery shops in Kansaripada, Golebazar and other areas. In Dhanteras, many people have bought various electronic goods like refrigerator, TV, washing machine, AC, laptop, mobile etc. Many people book their two wheeler or four wheeler in advance and take it home on this day.
