Sambalpur: Concerns Raised Over Youth Trapped in Overbridge Joint, Public Works Department Faces Charges of Endangering Lives
Sambalpur: Walking on the overbridge in the evening. Suddenly, my leg got caught in the bridge’s joint. The leg was down to the knee. My leg was pulled out with great difficulty with the help of passers-by. This bridge made by the Public Works Department is going to kill people. People’s lives are being played with without proper construction. Pradeep Mishra of AN Guha Lane, who almost fell on the bridge today, complained.
The young man’s leg was caught in the overbridge’s joint, Just survived.
The construction of the Lakhmi Talkies Overbridge was delayed enormously. For a long time, the construction company had abandoned it. After much controversy, its construction was completed. After the inauguration, construction defects were revealed. Even so, the joint was again dismantled and rebuilt to make up for the margin of error. The joint had major cracks and was repaired less than six months ago. Now the same problem has occurred again. The joints in the bridge are getting bigger, which is now accused of causing danger to people’s lives.
Today, AN Guha Lane’s Pradeep Mishra’s leg got trapped in the gap of the joint. While walking, his leg carelessly fell on the joint spot and immediately fell off. The leg was down to the ankle. For a long time his leg did not come out despite trying. He pulled out his leg with the help of the passers-by. The leg has been injured. He immediately came to the district head hospital and was treated. He is now healthy.
Like Pradeep, other people are also facing a lot of problems here. Construction errors are dangerous. So it is demanded to repair it once again. On the other hand, rainwater has been found in various spots along the bridge. Many areas have standing water since there are no rainwater drainage facilities. There are frequent complaints about the quality of most of the projects being done under the Public Works Department. Whether it is road construction or overbridge.
It has been alleged that the current Ainthapali to Fatak road is also very poor in quality. The picture is still unclear as to what the Public Works Department wants to do in constructing this road. Therefore, it is alleged that the agency is working deliberately. The Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department declined to comment.
