Sambalpur: Conditional bail granted to 29 lawyers of Sambalpur Bar Association who were arrested on charges of vandalism

The Odisha High Court has granted conditional bail to 29 lawyers of the Sambalpur Bar Association who were arrested on charges of vandalism and involvement in the High Court Permanent Bench movement in Sambalpur. The High Court has given bail. The High Court has given a condition not to hold rallies, not to protest and not to make statements. On December 12 last year, 29 lawyers were arrested.

The hearing of the bail plea of the lawyers arrested for their involvement in the vandalism for High Bench Demand Movement in Sambalpur ended yesterday in the High Court. Panel consist of Justice V. Narasimha and hearing of 20 regular appeals of the lawyers arrested in the Sambalpur court premises incident took place. The final stage of argument was presented on behalf of the petitioner when the government informed about the current status of the investigation. The High Court reserved the judgment after hearing the regular bail pleas of lawyers Pramod Kumar Saraf, Sureshwar Mishra, Pradeep Bohidar, Ratanlal Agarwal, Surendra Mohanty, Satyanarayan Panda, Bishnu Prasad Padhi, Shiv Kumar Dewan, Ashish Guru, Vidyadhar Panda, Bimalkant Mohapatra and others.

On the other hand, the High Court today granted bail to eight lawyers who were arrested in connection with the Ruju case related to the agitation that took place after a road accident in Sambalpur’s Dhanupali police station on March 2022. After being arrested in the Sambalpur court premises vandalism case, the petitioner was also shown to be arrested in the old Dhanupali police station case. The Sambalpur courtroom incident of last December had nothing to do with this incident. But the police said that the arrested lawyer was also arrested in the Dhanupali police station case. In this case Shivkumar Diwan, Bimalkant Mahapatra, Suraj Kumar Viswal, S.P. Padhi, Satyanarayan Panda, Ashish Ranjan Guru, Manoranjan Panda, P.K. Singhdeo was granted bail by the High Court yesterday in the Dhanupali case.
