Sambalpur: Congress Leader Suicide Attempt Incident, Former DCC President on Trial
Sambalpur: The suicide attempt of a Congress leader became a topic of discussion in Sambalpur on Thursday. She alleged that the leader had taken such extreme measures due to the torture of his husband and the mental torture of the former district president of the Congress. On the basis of her complaint, senior Congress leader Asaf Ali Khan was detained and interrogated by the police on Thursday. Police arrested Asaf on Friday and took him to court. On the 21st, the police registered a case in Case No. 454/23 and started investigating the incident. On Friday, Asaf was arraigned by the Town Police Station after filing a case under Sections 109, 309, 323, 34, 354, 354(A), 500, 506 and 509 of the IPC.
It is to be noted that on Thursday morning, a senior leader of the Congress minority cell tried to commit suicide by drinking phenyl at her home. She was admitted to the District Hospital for treatment. She is still under treatment. Before committing suicide, she wrote a letter and sent it to some officers of Sambalpur District Police. In the said letter, she made a complaint against her husband and Congress leader Asaf. Her husband has been abusing her physically and mentally for 15 years. Former District Congress President Asaf is mentally torturing her. Asaf told her to do something wrong. When she refused, Asaf threatened to kill her. Two Congress leaders also mentioned in the letter that the leader was mentally torturing them. When she died, she wrote a letter not to allow her husband or her stepson to touch her body and requested the police to punish Asaf and her husband severely. On the other hand, Asaf, who has resigned from the post of president, denied all the allegations.
