Sambalpur: Controversy doesn’t leave Sambalpur University, Harassment of students for staying in the hostel

Burla: Controversy don’t leave Sambalpur University. As the time for the NAAC team is approaching, new controversies are emerging in the university day by day. Two lecturers have been suspended for misbehavior in the past month, while a student was allegedly sexually assaulted in a university hostel today. Some of the students have complained that the head of the student residence behaved rudely and subjected them to mental torture. But the president denied it. According to information, three first-year students of different departments have been living in the Brahmi student residence of the university since last 5th. Although these students were enrolled in the university, they were not provided with hostel buildings. As a result, these three students lived in the Brahmin hostel with their friends. He thought he would move there if he found a hostel.

They thought they would move from there if they found a hostel. However, there is a rule of stay of three days in a student residence. If there are more days than that, there is a rule to ask for prior permission from the head. But these three students are not outsiders but are university students, so until their hostels are provided, Brahmani students get permission from the head of their department to stay in the hostel. But yesterday evening at around 5:45 pm, Assistant Professor of the Biology Department, Dr. Samantika Pattnaik, who is in charge of the hostel, reached the hostel and abused three students in front of the hostel. She ordered to leave the hostel immediately. At this time, the head has accused the student of psychologically harming her by using words.

The students complained that they were embarrassed because they shouted and abused in front of everyone. There has been no serious complaint about this. However, after the occurrence of this incident, there is a demand for the university to look into it. On asking Dr. Samantika Pattnaik, head of the hostel, she said that the complaint was completely baseless and they did not ask for any permission while they were staying. They were told to stay for violating the rule for 3 days. She said that she did not show bad behavior. However, it is demanded that the authorities look into this and take steps towards bringing the truth of the incident to light.
