Sambalpur: Cracks in the house due to blasting, Administration ignored the suffered farmers and favoured the NLC
Why is the administration favoring NLC? Comment !!
Sambalpur: Local residents have complained that the NLC India Company is not giving preference to the farmers displaced and losing their land due to mining. It is also indirectly exploiting the workers working in the mines without any fair benefits. While NLC India continues to operate in a haphazard manner, the management is showing favoritism NLC instead of taking a tough approach.
- Many trees were cut down before people arrived
Hundreds of people will lose their land due to mining of Talabira 2 and 3 coal mines under Rengali block of Sambalpur district. Many people’s land has been lost due to mining. Many of them could not get the compensation amount.
Meanwhile, even though the process of payment of compensation has not started, NLC India has dumped soil on the farmers’ land. Not only that, the company does not leave the farm land, but also gives them a variety by adding soil to the crop. Due to such arbitrariness of the company, the farmers are facing huge losses. On the one hand, the farmers are not able to produce agriculture and on the other hand, they are not getting the compensation money, so it is difficult to support the family, and people are complaining that cracks are appearing in the houses of the villagers near the explosion. Due to this, the water of the swamp is also getting polluted.
On the other hand, Company is not taking up any development work in CSR Khinda Panchayat. The list of displaced families is not published even after the coal mine is fully productive. The payment of 3500 per month to the affected families is limited to the announcement (Letter No. 1942 37/2019). Company is not taking any proper action in this regard even though it has been reported to the authorities. Before 2009, the varieties of land have been converted, to save the company’s money, they are also not being paid compensation on that account. Coal is being transported on public roads used by villagers without constructing alternative roads. They are repeatedly going on strike as they are not providing production incentive, NLC 2021-22 bonus, medical insurance to the working workers. The administration is not focusing on solving the problems of farmers and laborers affected by mining. Meanwhile, the police and administrative officials are reaching out to cut the trees in the second phase. Due to the opposition of the villagers, they were not forced to come back, but they cut down many trees in it. While the state government has made policies to prioritize the interests of the affected and landless people, the administration has been blinded by corporate love. Dissatisfaction is growing in the region against such policy of the administration
