Sambalpur: Dead Body Mortgaged for money, ICU not provided in Burla Vimsar, went to private nursing home and lost the wife

BURLA: A poor woman of Sundargarh died after not getting an ICU bed in Vimsar, but went to a private nursing home in the hope of getting better treatment. However, the nursing home authorities did not leave the dead body of the dead woman Savita Hathi for 10 hours for money, which has created a stir in the area.

According to information received, Mantu Karta of Kinjirma area under Asha police station of Sundargarh district admitted his wife Savita Hati (30) to the Sundargarh government hospital due to labor pains on the 15th. There Savita gave birth to a son after surgery on the 16th. Mantu admitted his wife Savita to Burla Vimsar on 18th in critical condition as her health deteriorated after delivery. As Savita’s condition was alarming, the doctor advised her to be admitted to the ICU bed. On doctor’s advice, he tried for an ICU bed in Vimsar. But, the ICU bed was not available in the hospital. He was forced to admit his wife in a nursing home near Burla LIC office on 19th on the advice of some staff to save her life. Mantu deposited Rs 20,000 in the nursing home during his admission. Mantu is a poor man. However, he spent about 60 thousand rupees on medicines to save his wife’s life. But last night Savita died there. Mantu was completely devastated by this. In the morning, the nursing home staff asked for the outstanding bill (Rs. 1 lakhs) after Mantu asked for the dead body. Mantu had no money. So he proposed to go home and mortgaged up the house and pay the money. He even said that he was ready to write the undertaking on the stamp paper. However, Mantu alleged that the body will not be taken until the nursing home authority passes the bill. Mantu informed that after paying Rs 30,000 to the nursing home authorities, they handed over the dead body at around 4:00 in the afternoon.

On the other hand, lack of ICU beds in Burla Vimsar has forced poor patients to resort to private nursing homes.
