Sambalpur: Dead Body of Boyfriend Found Near Girlfriend’s House in Sambalpur, Family Alleges Murder
Sambalpur: Tension has arisen over the death of a young man in the Mayabagicha area under the Dhanupali police station in Sambalpur. The deceased, Rajat Bagarti (20), and his family, along with the locals of Mayabagicha, have accused his girlfriend’s family of being involved in his death. They allege that the girlfriend’s family, unhappy with their romantic relationship, killed Rajat through the girlfriend herself and then made it look like a suicide.
According to reports, Rajat lived with his maternal uncle’s family in Mayabagicha after his father’s death. He worked as a painter and supported his widowed mother and two younger brothers. Rajat was in a romantic relationship with a young woman from Sarla, and they wanted to marry. Three days ago, they visited the Samaleswari temple. After seeking blessings, Rajat applied sindoor to his girlfriend’s forehead, symbolically marrying her, and they took photos together happily. However, the girlfriend’s family disapproved of this marriage. Last night, around 9:30 PM, the girlfriend called Rajat’s cousin’s mobile phone to speak with Rajat. Later, Rajat called her back and invited her to their usual meeting place. It is unclear what happened next, but Rajat’s maternal uncle and others allege that the girlfriend’s family killed him there.

Rajat’s uncle stated that around 11:30 PM, a local auto driver identified Rajat’s body and informed them. Rajat had marks on his neck, and it is alleged that the girlfriend’s family, unhappy with the marriage, planned his murder and then took his body to the hospital to make it look like a suicide. Since Sunday night until this afternoon, Rajat’s relatives and locals have been staging a protest in front of the Dhanupali police station, demanding an investigation and justice.
On the other hand, Dhanupali police stated that the girlfriend was questioned about the incident. She said that her family, unhappy with the marriage, tried to explain things to Rajat last night. An argument ensued between the two, during which Rajat became angry and hit her. Upset by this, he said he couldn’t live any longer and suddenly hanged himself with his belt from a nearby tree. The girlfriend immediately called her family, who, with the help of locals, took Rajat to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital, according to the police. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and an investigation is underway. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report is received. If it is found to be a murder, action will be taken against the accused, said Dhanupali police station officer-in-charge Ranjan Biswal.
