The menace of addicts is increasing at night in Sambalpur city. Due to the lack of police patrolling and the easy availability of intoxicants, the nights are becoming bloody. Such incidents are happening regularly. Areas like Remed, Ainthapali, Malipada Fatak Road, Sarlakani to Sakhipada, Jagannath Colony Road (Railway Underpass), and Khetrajpur are witnessing increasing disturbances from addicts at night. During the election, the city police were stationed in the city, which had improved the situation. However, now that there is no strict security, the menace of addicts is rising again. Previously, there was police deployment at the bus stand, but it has now stopped. After today’s incident, there is a renewed demand to establish a police outpost at the bus stand for the safety and security of the area.
In the city, Corex and tablets are easily available 24 hours a day in every alley. Bhuban’s bus owner has reported this to the Ainthapali police station. This is said to be the main reason for the increase in the crime rate in the city. Despite occasional raids to curb the illegal drug trade, the sale of Corex and tablets has not been completely stopped. Therefore, there are regular complaints about such incidents. The reaction from Sambalpur police on this matter is still awaited.
