Sambalpur: Death of Sambalpur Photo Journalist Hiralal Sharma
Sambalpur: Senior photojournalist Hiralal Sharma (86) passed away at his residence in Talbhattapada on Friday at 4pm. He was sick for last 3/4 days. Born in Ratangarh, Rajasthan, Hiralal’s workplace was Sambalpur. He worked for newspapers like Jugadharma, Dainik Bhaskar, Hirakhand and published a weekly magazine called ‘Kutsatya’. Later, he worked continuously for 40 years as a photojournalist in ‘Samaj’ newspaper and gained fame. In addition, he performed the duties of host in Loksevak Mandal, Sambalpur branch’s Updeshta Mandali. He was a founding member of the Sambalpur Press Club as well as the Treasurer and a member of the Sambalpur District Press Association. He formed a social organization called Kala Niketan and was associated with various social organizations. His wife Sumitra Devi, two sons Hansraj, Lalit, daughters Kusum and Kumkum were present at the death rites.
His last rites will be performed at Rajghat at 10 am on Saturday. Jamshib Mohapatra, Branch Manager of ‘Samaj’ Sambalpur Edition and others went to his residence in Talbhatapada to pay his last respects. Sambalpur Zilla Press Association President Subas Manigarahi, Odisha Press Union (OJU) Sambalpur District Branch President Himanshu Shekhar Mishra, District General Editor Saroj Sahu have expressed condolences and condoled with the bereaved family. Tributes have also been paid by the Sambalpur Press Club.
