Sambalpur: Demand to Construct Proposed Service Road from Kacheri Chowk to GM College Chowk
Sambalpur: While the introduction of the ‘Mo Bus’ initiative in Sambalpur is a positive step, there is a problem with bus movement due to the lack of widening of the service road for bus traffic. The service road alongside the flyover constructed in the city remains incomplete to this date.
A flyover was built in Sambalpur city a few years ago as part of the development plan. Several organizations had called for the construction of a two-way road instead of a flyover. However, the district government ignored the public’s concerns and continued with the flyover construction. After the flyover was completed, the main road narrowed, and service roads on both sides were not built. Even now, some residents occupy the property designated for the service road, which slows the land acquisition process.
Surya Panigrahi, the coordinator of the social organization ‘Sakyham,’ remarked “If the administration had the willingness, the work could have been completed quickly.”
The government’s initiative to launch the ‘Mo Bus’ for the convenience of city people is a positive move. However, the narrowed road is causing problems for bus movement today. Buses often face difficulties and get stuck in traffic jams.
As a result, there is a requirement to widen the service road connecting Kacheri Chowk to GM College (Pandit Lakshmi Narayan Mishra Chowk) in Sambalpur. Once the service road is built, buses and vehicles will be able to move more easily, and city residents will be able to use the ‘Mo Bus’ facility safely.
Consequently, the district administration has been requested to turn its promises into action and address this issue promptly.
