Sambalpur: Development is still unattainable in the Sambalpur Metropolitan Area
Sambalpur: It will be almost 8 years since Sambalpur city was declared as a metropolitan corporation. The people of 12 panchayats were very happy to hear the news of merger with the metropolis. Many dreamed of having access to the facilities of the metropolis. However, government facilities are still inaccessible to many slums. From Mistripada, Tetelpada, Lalapada area of Brahampura village under Ward No. 1 of Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation.
More than a hundred families are living in these three areas. All the families living there belong to the poor class. They complained that till date no concrete road could be made. Even now they are going through that mud road. Now both the roads leading to that area are completely muddy. People walk through the mud every day.
Pramila Oram complained that children cannot even go to school when it rains heavily. They say that if you call an ambulance in an emergency situation, the ambulance will not pass through muddy road.
Baikunth Oram said that the auto refused to go even if they hired. Good drinking water is not coming. It has been 2 years since the pipeline was laid in Amritdhara. The supply of water remains uncertain. People walk hundreds of meters for water. The street lights are not lit since the day they were put on. n the other hand, there is no need for a anganwadi center in the area. As a result, some women of the village have complained that more than 40 children have been deprived of anganwadi education.
Bilasini Oram, local resident: We are facing a lot of problems for water. There are 2 tube wells. However, the water of both is unfit for consumption. From what harvest are we living here? But unfortunately we didn’t even find a paved road. Even today we live in mud houses. A concrete house is a dream for us. On a rainy day, water is running around the house. Polythene is also not available. Even after the merger of the metropolis, we are not getting any benefits.
Nilamani Oram, local resident: We are poor people. Government work is unknown. Well, I am 55 years old. I have seen since my childhood that the dirt road here was never paved. The road is muddy in light rain. Pregnant women, physically ill people have to be carried in beds for 300, 400 meters in emergency situations. Sometimes even an ambulance does not come for the road. Leaders come during elections and promise to build roads. And it has happened so many times that it is forgotten when the election is over. Requesting the administration to provide a paved road as soon as possible.
