Sambalpur: The Sambalpur District Bar Association is celebrating ‘Satyagraha’ today on the demand of a permanent bench of the High Court in Western Odisha. Various social organizations have also supported it. Today, members of various social organizations came out in a procession carrying traditional instruments and banners and joined the movement with lawyers at Kacheri Street.
The protesters banded together and attempted to break the barricade and enter the court. At this time, the police tried to stop them from doing so. As a result, the protestors and the police clashed. There was a dispute between them. However, the protesters entered the court and prevented the judge from conducting court proceedings. Apparently, the protesters burnt the effigy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In support of the advocate’s motion to demand a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court, all government employees working in the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation area were requested to stay off work on Monday 12th. They have been requested to voluntarily close their offices and institutions and join the ‘Satyagraha’ and protest movement across Odisha from 9 am to 6 pm. In a press release, the Bar Association has called upon the people of all walks of life to unite in support of the justified demand for setting up a High Court bench in Sambalpur.
