Sambalpur: Sambalpur District Hospital Controversy; Two Patients Receive Injections from the Same Syringe
Sambalpur: Staff at Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital are being accused of negligence. Just two days ago, a shocking incident occurred in which two people were allegedly injected with the same syringe, causing outrage and concern in the public.
Incident Details
According to reports, a woman was bitten by a cat and received treatment at the district hospital. A staff member on duty used the same syringe to administer injections to both of her arms. Another person arrived at the hospital after being bitten by a dog. Surprisingly, the same syringe was used to administer the second half of the injection to this individual.
This alarming incident comes after another recent controversy at the hospital, in which a woman from Jharsuguda was mistakenly diagnosed with dengue due to a faulty report. The woman was visiting relatives in Sambalpur when she developed a fever and went to the district hospital for treatment. The doctor recommended a test because he suspected dengue, but the patient and her family were shocked when the test report showed a false positive result for dengue.

Faulty Report and Panic
However, the report proved to need to be corrected. On the day the sample was sent for testing, the relevant machine at the hospital broke down, preventing the sample from being properly tested. Meanwhile, it is alleged that a female employee had casually instructed the person writing the report to mark it as positive. As a result, the family lost trust in the hospital and decided to repeat the test in Jharsuguda, where the results were negative.
Official Response
When contacted, District Chief Medical and Public Health Officer Dr. Sujata Rani Mishra confirmed the complaint about the faulty report. She stated that the concerned employees had been reprimanded for their behavior. Regarding the use of a single syringe for two patients, Dr. Mishra stated that this should never have happened and that a thorough investigation would be conducted before making any further comments.
This incident has raised serious concerns about Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital’s practices, with many now doubting the safety and reliability of the care provided there.
