Sambalpur: Drug Trade Flourishes in Cheruapada, Golbazar, Sunapali, Thelkopada; Police Accused of Inaction
Sambalpur: A spike in the availability of illegal drugs has frightened people, with heroin, cocaine, and other narcotics easily accessible across the city. Peddlers sell drugs openly, for as little as Rs 1000. Heroin is priced at Rs 2700 each shot, and cocaine costs Rs 3000. The illegal trade happens frequently in locations such as Cheruapada, Golbazar, and Sunapali.
Despite this, authorities have been criticized for failing to address this issue. Despite having information on drug peddlers, police have made only limited arrests, and significant figures remain at large. The unemployment department recently seized heroin and brown sugar, yet the main culprits continue to evade capture.
In addition to traditional drugs, the usage of corex and tablets is increasing, particularly among workers. A well-known man in Thelkopada oversees a massive distribution network, but authorities have been unable to catch him despite public knowledge of his actions.
Sambalpur Police have pledged to ramp up efforts ahead of the next elections, including more raids and a targeted crackdown on drug peddlers. A particular campaign to eliminate corex abuse is presently ongoing throughout the city.
