Sambalpur: Elephant killed with bullet, hunter arrested
Sambalpur: A bullet was found in the body of a dead elephant in the Sapalhara pond. The elephant was killed by a hunter. Sambalpur DFO Bishwanath Nilannavar said today that a local guns and other items were seized from him while the hunter was arrested in the case. At a press conference on Thursday evening, Sambalpur DF and Bishwanath Nilannavar said the CDVO had been asked to send an expert team to dissect the elephant’s body from the Sapalahara pond.
During the autopsy, This expert team of doctors found bullet in the the elephant leg’s joint. About 40 guns were seized. As a result, the kidneys, liver of elephant were all paralyzed. A team of forest officials and staff was formed after the finding the bullet. Three people were arrested and charged. One of them was found to be involved after being detained and interrogated. He will be arrested and arraigned tomorrow.
The DFO reported that a local gun, bow, arrow, wire and other items used for poaching were seized from the house. Although the elephant was spotted in the Padiabahal Range area on the 29th, it took four long days to provide medical care. People, however, feared that this might be the case with hunters. The fear of the locals has now come true. A 4-inch-and-2-half-inch round bullet was found inside the elephant’s body.
