Sambalpur: Sambalpur Faces Prolonged Potato Shortage; Prices Skyrocket, Consumers Concerned
Sambalpur: For nearly a month, Sambalpur’s potato shortage has shown no signs of easing. As a result, the open market price of potatoes has steadily increased. This has raised significant concerns among consumers.
Consumers face the challenge of buying potatoes at excessive costs, which frequently spoil within two to three days of purchase. As a result, many residents are concerned about their financial burden.
According to the District Supply Intelligence Department, 435 quintals of potatoes are currently stored in six warehouses throughout the city. Furthermore, 600 quintals from West Bengal and 298 quintals from Uttar Pradesh have recently arrived, but the district’s daily requirement of 600 to 700 quintals remains unmet.

Despite frequent arrivals, residents complain that the price of potatoes has remained above 40 rupees per kilogram for an extended period. Customers report significant spoilage within days of purchasing these expensive potatoes, exacerbating their financial burden.
The department acknowledges the ongoing supply chain issues and is making efforts to ensure a consistent supply of potatoes. However, the difficulties in ensuring regular deliveries continue to contribute to price instability.
Sambalpur residents are deeply concerned about the prolonged potato crisis, which includes high prices and spoilage. As the situation worsens, the community hopes for a solution to ease their burdens.
