Sambalpur: Flithy Water Flows Through Taps in Sambalpur, Public Outraged
Sambalpur: Residents of several areas in Sambalpur city have been getting a foul surprise through their taps – sewage water instead of drinking water. Despite the municipal corporation spending crores on the Amrit Yajna water infrastructure upgrade project, the problem persists.
Complaints have come in from areas such as Hirakud, Govindtola, and Gopalmal, where sewage has been running through drinking water pipelines for the previous four days. Consuming this tainted water has already resulted in a diarrhea outbreak in Hirakud.
“We are being supplied sewage water through the taps regularly. This smelly water is unfit for any use, let alone drinking,” said a Govindtola resident. Similar grievances have come from Gopalmal area residents as well.
The Sambalpur public has reacted angrily to the municipal authorities’ incompetence. “We have complained multiple times to the APV office, but no action has been taken to stop this sewage water supply,” stated a Govindtola woman.
After a jaundice case was reported recently, crores were spent to lay new pipelines under Amrit Yajna. However, the contamination issue persists, pointing to serious long-term problems with the city’s drinking water infrastructure.
Citizens have demanded that the district administration immediately investigate the causes behind this drinking water contamination and take strict action against those responsible for endangering public health. The threat of water-borne disease outbreaks looms large if the issue is not urgently addressed.
