Sambalpur: Flood in Ainthapali from canal, water has entered people’s houses
Sambalpur: Flood was seen in Sambalpur city on Thursday. The canal overflowed and entered people’s houses. Due to water seeping inside the house, people have to face unforeseeable problems.
Due to paddy harvesting, the water supply in the canals coming out of Hirakud Dam was stopped for almost two months. Water was withdrawn from Sambalpur distributary today for irrigation. The canals were filled with garbage due to the water being blocked. The water in this canal was removed this morning. The water could not flow further due to the debris being deposited near the underground pipe of the canal, which crossed the national highway near Ainthapali. As a result, the canal swelled and its water seeped into the canal. Even the water went up to the premises of Ainthapali Urban Health Care Hospital.
About 50 families living near the canal were affected. There was about 3/4 feet of water in the road in front of the house. The contents of the house were damaged by water. People have to fast on Thursday. After receiving the information, the water resources department stopped the canal water and diverted it in another direction. Later, the water in the canal was stopped and the cleaning work started. The cleaning work is expected to continue tomorrow. The local people have to suffer as a result of the negligence of the water resources department. There has been dissatisfaction among the people.
