Sambalpur: Food Safety Department’s Raid Starts Today Amid Sitalsasthi Festivities
Sambalpur: The city of Sambalpur is alive with activity in anticipation of the famous Sitalsasthi festival. There is visible excitement and enthusiasm among the people. Markets are crowded, and homes are filled with friends and family. People have decorated their homes, and the committees are prepared to showcase many new things at this year’s festival. The committees expect a higher turnout than in past years. They are rigorously preparing for the event. Several food stands have already been set up to accommodate the crowds. The fruit business is also likely to grow. From snacks to fast food, exhibitors are eager to perform well during the festival.
However, there is a significant concern about the sale of adulterated food among the crowd. There are fears of contamination in everything from oil to livestock products. Many unethical traders are taking advantage of the situation to maximize their gains. Such situations have occurred several times in the past. In the fruit business, harmful chemicals are often used. Traders sometimes use these chemicals to ripen and preserve fruits quickly.
Keeping these issues in mind, the Food Safety Department of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started preparing to control such unethical traders. Starting Monday, the Food Safety Department will conduct raids on various fruit warehouses, fruit shops, street food stalls, and food business establishments, according to Food Safety Officer Sandeep Saurabh.
